In a brief ceremony, today, as part of the Combined Commanders’ Conference, the Chairman Chief of Staff Committee and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha awarded the Defence Services Overall Championship Trophy and a Rolling Trophy to Best Services Sportsperson. The ceremony was attended by the senior officers of all three services.
The Defence Services Overall Championship Trophy was won by Army Red Team and received by Lt Gen Jaiprakash Nehra, Army Red team won eight of the 18 disciplines scoring 116 points followed closely by the Indian Navy scoring 100 points. The third and fourth positions were secured by the IAF and Army Green with a score of 86 and 58 respectively.
Harpreet Singh Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO), IInd Class (UC) of the Indian Navy was declared the Best Services Sportsperson. He was awarded the AVM Jaswant Singh rolling trophy and a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000 based on his performance in the last five years till March 2014. Harpreet Singh MCP, IInd Class is an outstanding shooter of international repute having won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in 2013 National Championship, 1 Gold and 3 Silver in 34th National Games, 1 Gold in SAF Games, 01 Silver in Asian Championship, at Tehran, 1 Bronze in 5th Military World Games at Rio and 2 Gold medals in Commonwealth Games 2010. He also participated in the 10th Asian Games in China and ISSF World Cup in Germany
